Safety Equipment

State-of-the-art equipment is used on our abseiling to provide the utmost safety and comfort of our guests. This equipment is required for all participants abseiling.

 

Zipline flying fox equipment

HARNESS

Also called “Seat Harness”, these harnesses provide the utmost safety with adjustable comfort. These seat harnesses are an industry standard. The webbing that the harness is made of has a tensile breaking trength of 5000 lb (22.3kN)

CHEST HARNESS

For use in conjunction with a seat harness, the chest harnesses keeps you upright while on the rope and provides you with a full body harness. This is something that Abseil Fiji has incorporated into our equipment to provide extra safety. Chest harnesses have a 5000 lb (22.3kN) tensile breaking strength.

CARABINEERS

Multiple carabineers are used in conjunction with other course equipment to secure participants. Carabiners are made by multiple companies within the industry. All of our carabiners have over 5000 lb (22.3kN) tensile breaking strength.

HELMETS

Helmets are designed to protect the head from objects dropped from above and to serve as a barrier from bumps and abrasions.

These gloves are used to provide safety and for braking on the rope.

Operational Safety Policies

The following operational policies are in effect at  ABSEIL FIJI's  courses:

  • Courses are inspected each morning prior to the start of operations.
  • Weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual course inspections and audits are conducted.
  • Equipment usage is monitored and recorded after each use to ensure its integrity.
  • Guides receive intensive training, including rescue techniques, and First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Two Abseil guides accompany each group of no more than 12 participants.
  • All participants, including guides, wear the same type of equipment. No personal equipment is allowed on the courses.
  • Participants are connected to the ropes and the safety lines with lanyards at all times while on the course.
  • Participants are instructed in safe abseiling techniques and guides ensure that all procedures are followed throughout the course.
  • One participant descends a rope at a time. No tandem abseiling.
  • Guides lead participants throughout the course and handle all equipment

We use only state of the art equipment, provide extensive guide training, and conduct our tours in a safe environment.
